An article review is a type of academic paper that involves an analysis of the article with support from other relevant sources. The latter are needed to show limitations of the work under analysis.
Introduction
The review should start with stating the title of the article and its author. For example,
The article under review is entitled “The Role of Knowledge-Oriented Leadership in Knowledge Management Practices and Innovation” by Donate and Sanchez de Pablo (2015).
Then it is necessary to introduce the topic of the article and the main problems raised.
Finally, the introduction should end with the thesis statement presenting the main message imparted by the authors and a view on it. For example,
The researchers claim that since innovation performance depends on knowledge-oriented leadership, it is necessary to implement knowledge management practices.
Summary
This part can be of almost the same size as the introduction or a little bit longer, but should not be more than one page. It should summarize the problem statement of the article, research method, results, and findings.
Analysis
It is the main part of the article review, which represents a subjective perspective on the article with the following information included:
- Evaluation of article’s strengths like evidence and methods, reliability, testability of findings, and credibility;
- Analysis of article’s weaknesses or limitations like missing points;
- Provision of recommendations or opportunities to further investigate the topic.
Conclusion
The final part of the article review is a conclusion with the synthesis of information and findings above.
