The use of artificial intelligence (AI)-generated text can raise many ethical issues, especially in writing and blogging. However, if you learn about the responsible use of ChatGPT, it is possible to prevent ethical concerns and turn AI into a useful tool for content creation and inspiration.

1. Responsible Use of ChatGPT to Come up with Ideas and Prompts

There are several steps that you should follow for ensuring responsible use of ChatGPT in writing and blogging:

  • Do not copy AI-generated sentences and submit them as a piece of written work or blog post under your authorship;
  • Use ChatGPT to get writing prompts or ideas based on which you can write your own work;
  • Benefit from creating an essay outline or a blog post outline based on AI-generated prompts;
  • Treat ChatGPT as a search tool or a search engine to get information.

2. AI Use to Find Information and Research

ChatGPT can be a great tool for finding research articles and data on the topic and subtopics.

You can use to brainstorm ideas from studies:

  • AI can provide a short summary of each research article on the topic;
  • It can help create citations and references in the style of your choice;
  • Information from articles is summarized in a short and easy-to-understand way with minimal technical terms.

The key issues associated with AI use to find research studies:

  • Sometimes, articles found by ChatGPT may have wrong names of authors, date, or other fake information.
  • Summaries may omit the key details and important findings.
  • Research articles may not have enough relevant information to support ideas in your work or post with evidence.

Therefore, it is important to consider RELEVANCY – PUBLISHING INFORMATION – FACTS in articles found by AI.

3. Ethical Concerns of Transparency

The main problem associated with AI use is the lack of transparency. Some bloggers may publish AI-generated content as human-written. It raises the issue of trust. Thus, there is a need for disclosing AI writing for responsible use of ChatGPT. While some bloggers may publish a lot of AI-generated posts in several hours, a human requires around 4 hours to write a post. Therefore, it raises an important ethical concern of trust and, in fact, the issue of content originality with a human touch.

Moreover, AI cannot write content that imparts emotions as humans. It does not have experience and critical thinking (it provides fake publishing information, sometimes). It is also not suitable for analytical writing and making decisions guided by ethics. All these concerns call for better AI governance.

4. Measures to Prevent Ethical Concerns for Responsible Use of ChatGPT

Take the following key measures to prevent ethical issues:

  • Always check facts and data that ChatGPT has provided;
  • Use AI scanning tools (there are many free tools like GPTZero): scan your written work or blog to detect any AI content and fix it;
  • Take advantage of ChatGPT for research, outline, and the generation of ideas only: do not copy written pieces;
  • Disclose any use of AI other than for researching and getting prompts;
  • Filter articles found by AI and choose only those that are published within 5 or 10 years (AI often relies on outdated sources);
  • Apply critical thinking to analyze what information is useful for your writing and paraphrase in case ideas are not biased + find sources that can support such ideas and cite them;
  • Remember that only humans can share unique experiences, expertise, emotions, creativity, and opinions in writing and blogging, as AI is not trustworthy and may be biased.

AI can serve as your friend who can help to come up with ideas, but it cannot do all work as you can, in your own style and based on own experience. It can streamline productivity with generating prompts and helping to find research articles, which you should check. You can ask advise, but always use your critical thinking.
